How to Tie a Bow Tie

A self-tied bow tie – an elegant exclamation point to a formal style. Tying a bow tie is an art that can be difficult to master, but with a little will, patience, and by using this step-by-step guide, you can easily learn at your own pace.

1. First, make sure one side of the bow tie is lower than the other. Then take the longer part and place it over the short part.

2. With the longer part still in your hand, pull it under and then up behind the bow tie.

3. Now comes the fun part: fold the short part so that it resembles a butterfly wing.

4. Come around with the long part again and pull it up and over towards the front ↑ so that it is in front of the butterfly wing.

5. Pull the left wing over the right → and hold them together.

6. This is where it can get tricky. Hold the left wing and make sure to have a loophole at the top of the bow tie. Then fold the right side of the wing (the longer part).

7. Now take the right side of the wing (the longer part) and push it through the loophole, behind the first wing.

8. Finally adjust the bow tie and tighten it. You are now ready for your big night.

Learn how to tie a Half Windsor in a quick and easy step-by-step guide. The Half Windsor knot is one of the most versatile knots and can be worn almost everywhere. It is medium-sized and excellent for ties with a thicker fabric.

Step 1. Begin by holding the wide end of the tie on the right and the small end on the left. The small end should be just above your belly button. 

Step 2. Then place the wide end across the small end, to the left.

Step 3. Bring the wide end under the small end and then go across to the right.

Step 4. Then pull it up to the center, toward the neck loop.

Step 5. Pull the wide end through the neck loop and across to the left.

Step 6. Bring it over the front, and then over on the right.

Step 7. While it’s still underneath, pull the wide end up into the neck loop. 

Step 9. Finally, to tighten the knot, pull down on the wide end. Pull the knot and adjust to your liking.

How to Tie a Four in Hand Knot

If you're looking for a tie knot that's simple, versatile, and modern, the four-in-hand knot is perfect for you.

Place the tie around your neck, with the wider side to your left — hanging a little lower (just above the bellybutton).

→ Pull the wide end over and to the right.

Now under and to the left ← Then → back over the front to the right.

From underneath, pull it up into the neck loop. ↑ 

Pull down through the loop in the front. ↓

Create a dimple — fold and squeeze the wide end just below the knot.

Tighten and adjust — we favor a knot that is balanced to either the right or left, for an extra style statement.
