The Half Windsor Knot is a classic tie knot, perhaps because of its simplicity and elegance, while its medium size makes it suitable for many occasions. We’ll dive into some facts shortly, but first up, let’s talk about how to tie the knot itself.

1. Begin by holding the wide end of the tie on the right and the small end on the left. The small end should be just above your belly button.

2. Then place the wide end across the small end, to the left.

3. Bring the wide end under the small end and then go across to the right.

4. Then pull it up to the center, toward the neck loop.

5. Pull the wide end through the neck loop and across to the left.

6. Bring it over the front, and then over on the right.

7. While it’s still underneath, pull the wide end up into the neck loop.

8. Pull it into through the loop.

9. Finally, to tighten the knot, pull down on the wide end. Pull the knot and adjust to your liking.

What is the Half Windsor Knot?

The Half Windsor Knot is a simpler version of the Full Windsor Knot. It’s easier to master, and since it gives you a classic and not-too-complicated medium sized tie knot, the Half Windsor works with different dress shirts and is suitable for days at the office, smart family gatherings, or a date at your favourite neighbourhood restaurant.

Why Choose a Half Windsor Knot?

Once you have mastered this tie knot, it may well become your go-to. Winston Churchill preferred to wear bow ties, but if the occasion called for a tie, it was the Half Windsor Knot that he chose. The Half Windsor Knot makes an excellent compromise between the Four in Hand Knot and the Full Windsor Knot. Who knows, maybe it will become your go-to as well?
